What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
When I was little, I always wanted to be a fashion designer. Although now, I think costume designer/commissioner suits my interests better!
What made you start creating/cosplaying?
My first cosplay was for Dragoncon 2017 as vinyl scratch/dj pon 3 from my little pony. I made it myself because there wasn’t really costumes out there for that specific character. Cosplay was something I always had wanted to try so discovering that there was a community in my area encouraged me to finally give it a try.
What is your favorite tool you use daily?
I’d say my sewing needle and embroidery thread. I’ve learned the hard way that sewing things down instead of gluing them is way more secure.
What is your favorite Arda Wig? Why?
I really like Jaguar. I’ve used this one for a couple different characters now. I like this wig because although I’m not super experienced with spiking wigs, this base makes it so much easier to learn. I definitely recommend this one for any character with spiky hair.
What advice do you have for creators just starting out?
Be authentic to yourself. Social media places a lot of pressure on people to be perfect the first time around and don’t make mistakes. So I’d say just focus on your passion and your support and community will come to you.
What do you love most about cosplay/creating? What issues in the community do you wish you could change or bring awareness?
I love cosplay because it’s fun embodying my favorite characters and the community has allowed me to be my authentic self and connect with like-minded people. However, I wish I could change the negative perceptions some in the community have towards other cosplayers. Sometimes people forgot there’s a person underneath the cosplay, and that every kind of person is allowed to cosplay whatever character they choose. Our appearance shouldn’t make our cosplay seem any less valid or accurate to the original character.
What does Juneteenth mean to you?
Juneteenth is an important event that reminds me that my community has made a place for me here. It is impactful knowing how powerful the community in support of African Americans is; it makes me feel heard and seen.
If you had to be shipwrecked on a deserted island, but all your human needs—such as food and water—were taken care of, what two items would you want to have with you?
My sketchbook and an AC unit.

I’d really love to give you, Arda Wigs, your flowers! Every wig I’ve ordered has been the most comfortable, easiest to style, and most durable of my cosplay wig collection. I love that you cater to both small and larger head sizes and even offer different variations of a wig style so that any cosplayer can find their perfect match!
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
I think I would become an astronaut or a veterinarian! My name is inspired by my love for astronomy (and Sailor Moon) and I love animals very much! I currently have a bunny and a puppy!
What made you start creating/cosplaying?
Over the years, I realize that I cosplay not only to show appreciation to my favorite characters but to also become more confident in myself. Almost every character that I cosplay is someone that I see parts of myself in or is someone that that I admire to be more like. Portraying them makes me feel closer to achieving that.
What is your favorite tool you use daily?
My phone! I can take pictures, edit, and share my work with my friends! It also keeps me in the loop on their wonderful projects as well! And of course, I can watch anime anywhere at any time.
What is your favorite Arda Wig? Why?
The Suri and the Chibi! Mitsuri Kanroji & Usagi Tsukino have very particular hair styles, so of course I only want the best of the best wigs for my portrayal!
My first official cosplay ever was Usagi Tsukino, but the wig I had was much too small for me! The Chibi Large fits me perfectly and the various shades of blonde helped me choose what I felt best complimented my skin tone.
As for the Suri, I LOVE that it comes accurately dyed so I could just focus on the fun part: making her as fluffy as possible and then braiding! There are many inaccurate options out there, so I always recommend to my fellow Mitsuri cosplayers to invest in a Suri!
What advice do you have for creators just starting out?
Keep the PLAY in cosplay! Nothing about this hobby should make you feel sad or stressed. Cosplay is about self expression and showing what you love most about your favorite characters. Your portrayal is one of one. Cosplay DOES NOT have to be expensive, please always be respectful, and never be afraid to ask questions! There’s always someone willing to answer, especially me!
What do you love most about cosplay/creating? What issues in the community do you wish you could change or bring awareness?
Wig styling is the best part of creating for me! I’m not the best at sewing, but I love making a base wig turn into what I want it to become! My second best would be prop making. I try to incorporate something that I’ve made with my own hands into my cosplay as much as possible.
An issue I would like to bring awareness to the community is mental health! It’s easy to become discouraged because of the emphasis on follower count and engagement, but what should matter most is that you’re having FUN and being authentic! Algorithms are out of our control, but we can control the vibe we bring to the community. A kind comment, a like, and a share can brighten someone's day. Let’s keep cosplaying supportive and inclusive!
What does Juneteenth mean to you?
The topic of Juneteenth is bittersweet to me, but I’m very glad it’s being acknowledged. Believe it or not, I actually learned about it on Tumblr probably about a decade ago! I hope this awareness inspires people to do more self research about our history and inspire others to do the same. Knowledge is power.
If you had to be shipwrecked on a deserted island, but all your human needs—such as food and water—were taken care of, what two items would you want to have with you?
I would definitely bring my phone so I can stay in touch with my loved ones and keep up with my anime!

I'm Jay, also known as Jupidove! I'm on Twitter, Youtube, and Instagram under the same name.
Do you run a business you'd like to promote or do you have one in mind you'd like to lift up? Tell us about it!
In addition to cosplaying I voice act! You can find my reel at jtaylorvo.com. Aside from that, I'd love to lift up the It Gets Better Project! It’s a nonprofit that helps uplift and empower LGBTQ+ youth.
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Honestly? Any profession I’ve wanted to attempt I’ve attempted at some point in my life. Once my brain latches onto an idea, it doesn't let go until I’ve tried it. I've done cosplay commissions, freelance graphic design, portrait photography, voice acting, artist alleys, vlogging, Twitch streaming, vtubing... The one profession I'd love to focus on pursuing more regularly though is voiceover.
What made you start creating/cosplaying?
I was a big dork in middle school who saw one too many Kingdom Hearts cosplay skits on YouTube. Soon enough baby Jupi found out about Anime Expo in Los Angeles and went "Wooooow!! There's entire conventions near me where people do this?! How do I do that too?!"
My first cosplay ended up being Chezem from an old dating sim called "Shall We Date: My Sweet Prince". It was fraying absolutely everywhere and my dollar store eyeliner was dripping in the 100° LA heat, but I was THRIVING. I've been doing this since 2010 and haven't stopped loving it.
What is your favorite tool you use daily?
Adobe Illustrator! I feel like knowing how to make vector artwork and clean graphics in general has really helped me in nearly every creative endeavor. Cosplay wise I’ve used it to make cut files for my Cricut machine, trace over references to make patterns for props, and designed cosplay cards to give out at conventions. It's really useful.
What is your favorite Arda Wig? Why?
It's a tossup between Magnum and Matilda for sure. Magnums are always my go to base wig for short styles because of how easy it is to do a million different things to it like curling or spiking. I love that I can reuse them for other cosplays too! Matilda on the other hand is such a comfortable lace front to work with. I used them for both my Alucard and my Fearne cosplays because of how lovely the curls hold their shape and fall.
What advice do you have for creators just starting out?
You’re not going to be good at everything right away! Don’t be afraid of messing something up as you learn how to do it correctly. I negatively compared myself to more experienced creatives way too often while I was adding all these different skills to my toolbox. It can be hard to get out of your own head in the moment, but just know that trial and error is all a part of the creative process that you’ll fondly look back at in the future.
What do you love most about cosplay/creating? What issues in the community do you wish you could change or bring awareness?
I love the transformational and artistic aspects of cosplay. Cosplay gives you the opportunity to explore your own identity through the lens of a fictional character, and it even allows you to temporarily take on an entirely new appearance. I love cosplaying characters that have traits I wish I could embody more in my everyday life, so the joy I feel from capturing their essence in my costume is unmatched! It feels great to walk around in something that I spent months pouring love into creating and meeting other people with similar interests as me.
There’s unfortunately quite a few issues prevalent in this community though. Colorism and fatphobia run rampant in the scene now more than ever with cosplay becoming a part of mainstream culture. There are many ridiculously creative people who are actively looked over because they have dark skin or a bigger body type, and that’s seriously not okay. The amount of times I’ve had friends newer to cosplaying message me saying “I want to cosplay this character so badly but I’m not muscular enough/tall enough/thin enough/hot enough.” makes me want to shake them around like a dog with a chew toy. It drives me wild. You CAN cosplay those characters! If you love them, do it!
I really need the people who are considering starting to cosplay, especially those who are part of marginalized communities, to know that cosplay doesn’t always mean you are a 1:1 replica of a character. Some people enjoy doing that! But that’s not the only way of engaging with cosplay. This hobby has so many different aspects to it, so as long as you find something you enjoy about it you’re doing it right. Do this for yourself, not for others.
What does Juneteenth mean to you?
Juneteenth holds immense significance as a day of celebration symbolizing resilience, strength, and unity within the Black community. It reminds me that my entire existence is rooted in the tireless efforts of those who fought for my ancestors' right to live a life of freedom and dignity. What I really love about this day is how it fosters a sense of togetherness and support! It's really cool to see businesses, creatives, and the entire community coming together to uplift and empower one another. We still have a long way to go towards true equity, but there’s hope for a better future where all of us are equally represented and valued!
If you had to be shipwrecked on a deserted island, but all your human needs—such as food and water—were taken care of, what two items would you want to have with you?
I know there’s probably the practical answer of a tent and something comfy to sleep on, but I would bring my laptop stocked full of games and a Furby to talk to if I start hallucinating while waiting to be rescued.

]]>Name and Social Info?
My cosplay name is Whodigiya or ChocoFox. Most of my social information is under Whodigiya (Instagram, Twitter, YouTube), although I share a cosplay Facebook page with a friend called, "The Legendary Duo!"
Do you run a business you'd like to promote or do you have one in mind you'd like to lift up? Tell us about it!
I don't have a business of my own to promote, but I'd love to promote my friends over at Sorbet Jungle. They make incredibly cute plush animals and apparel. I've actually made it a habit to give one of their products, the croconana (exactly as it sounds: a crocodile + banana), away at conventions. I like to give them out, because they're always smiling and I know we can't always smile, but I hope the people I give them to can look at them and find it within themselves to smile as well. I encourage everyone to check out their shop online or if they're vending at an event!
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
I actually really enjoy my current occupation, but if I could attempt another I'd probably want to go and work as a volunteer coordinator at the USO. I volunteered with that organization for over 1300 hours while I was in Afghanistan and I really liked how I could listen to and help others relax and be themselves in a safe environment.
What made you start creating/cosplaying?
I started cosplaying, because I wanted to for a very long time and the opportunity arose when I turned about 28. It gave me the opportunity to really express the joy I feel about the things I like AND it allowed me to meet others that felt the same way. On top of that, it allowed me to act out as various characters by developing new skills or using the ones I had. Everything from freestyle rap to martial arts to promotional commentary!
What is your favorite tool you use daily?
I don't actually create my cosplay; I commission almost all of it or just put costumes together by buying individual pieces. I suppose, given that, my favorite tool is my smartphone. I've been able to connect with many talented individuals who've helped my cosplay dreams come true as well as find all the necessary components I need to put together new costumes.
What is your favorite Arda Wig? Why?
It's gotta be my Blue Steele in Spanish Brown, because it's so versatile and I wear it for two of my favorite costumes, Kim Kaphwan and Syo Kirishima. I also plan on using it for more costumes in the future!
What advice do you have for creators just starting out?
One thing I hear a lot from people just starting to cosplay, specifically other black cosplayers is, "I don't want to do it, because I'll be harassed online." The reality is if you choose to post photos of your cosplay online and you choose to do a character who is not your ethnicity, some people might talk. The other reality is that they're going to talk regardless costume or not. We live in a world of inequality. Just being alive is enough to garner vitriol from people who know nothing about you. Don't let that keep you from things that might make you happy or help you cope with how difficult life can be sometimes. Grab on to the things you love and express them as passionately as you can, however you can, whenever you have the opportunity. My only other piece of advice is cosplay what you want. Even if it's something you think people won't know... if you enjoy it just do it!
What do you love most about cosplay/creating? What issues in the community do you wish you could change or bring awareness?
The thing I love the most about cosplay is sharing that passion with others or even encouraging others to participate who otherwise wouldn't. King of Fighters doesn't get that much love in some spaces, so it's really cool when someone sees me and we can all geek out over the series. An extension of that is I really enjoy meeting new people and making new acquaintances all over the world. Something I'd like to bring awareness to is comment moderation: if a big-time company or influencer reposts a POC cosplayer... MODERATE YOUR COMMENT SECTION. It's scary for us when we get reposted, because we know we'll probably be harassed. If you're going to support us, make it known—take a stance! It's not enough to just post us up and leave us to the piranhas in the comment section. Flag the comments, respond with disapproval, and stand up for the marginalized few who just want to enjoy their hobby like everyone else.
What does Juneteenth mean to you?
Juneteenth means truth in history to me. I hadn't even heard of the significance of the date until I was an adult. It feels like every day more information is revealed to have been whitewashed from history and there's an initial pushback against it, because it seemingly "goes against" what some of us were taught growing up. Much celebration of marginalized history comes with struggle. A lot of our achievements were watered down or hidden. I'm constantly hearing about new things. I suppose that Juneteenth, to me, is a reminder that we may be free but there's still much of our history locked away. I look forward to learning about and hearing more news about the history that was hidden.
If you had to be shipwrecked on a deserted island, but all your human needs—such as food and water—were taken care of, what two items would you want to have with you?
That's tough... I actually do island hop for work; I know one thing we needed when we got stuck somewhere was a satellite phone. I'd definitely like to be able to call home to let my parents and friends know I'm okay. Outside of that... Provided food, water, and shelter weren't an issue, I'd probably need my emergency battery to charge the phone. True story: a scenario like this (but definitely not as serious) happened to me back in 2021.

I do offer cosplay commissions and prop work on my Instagram page, please refer to previous commission works and other cosplay works. I would also like to mention ChrissyPlaysDressUp's 3D Prints! You can find most of her works on her Instagram page!
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
I would love to break into either graphic design or voice acting! I love creating my own logos and layouts to promote my cosplays/artworks. Voice acting is interesting to me because of the opportunity to be able to portray different characters in a different method other than cosplay.
What made you start creating/cosplaying?
I cosplayed for the first time with my friends from high school! We went as characters from Bleach and ever since that first experience of putting on a cosplay, I've been hooked! I continue to cosplay now to create awareness that you don't have to look exactly like the character to be able to cosplay them.
What is your favorite tool you use daily?
I love using my hands, if that can be called a tool, haha. I love creating and sewing things by hand. If I did have to choose a particular tool, it would have to be sewing clips! I love how they don't put holes in fabric and they are easier to take off while sewing.
What is your favorite Arda Wig? Why?
I love both Jeannie and Dany Classics! I love the extra thickness and realistic quality of these wigs. They are also excellent wigs to add extra wefts into and have versatile styling aspects! The Jeannie is perfect for those cosplays that have ponytails!
What advice do you have for creators just starting out?
Start small and work from your comfort zone! Do not feel pressured to cosplay from popular animes or shows and cosplay characters that you actually feel excited about! Expect burnout and take needed breaks. Don't forget to fill your cup and take time to relax and recharge yourself. Don't compare yourself with others. The only competition you should be in is with yourself to improve each and every time you cosplay.
What do you love most about cosplay? What issues in the community do you wish you could change or bring awareness?
The creative atmosphere. I love seeing everyone put passion into creating, it gives me inspiration to keep cosplaying. I also love the friendships that form around the love of cosplay! While the cosplay community can be inspirational and welcoming, there are underlying issues that do make it difficult and not open for many to participate wholly in the amazing experience that is cosplay. I would wish to draw more attention and awareness to those areas of inclusivity.
What does Juneteenth mean to you?
Juneteenth. For me it is a day that has duality. While slaves were declared free throughout the nation with the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, most slaves were not aware of this until much later in 1865, the 19th of June. Juneteenth is a day of hope and a reminder that until racial equality is achieved, we are still much like our ancestors waiting for the announcement that we are truly free. Juneteenth is also a day to celebrate and remember how far we've come as a people to better prepare us for a hopeful future without racial prejudice or inequality.
If you had to be shipwrecked on a deserted island, but all your human needs—such as food and water—were taken care of, what two items would you want to have with you? This is definitely a hard one! I would have to say my sketchbook and a disposable camera (Never know what you might see on a deserted island!)
Do you run a business you'd like to promote or do you have one in mind you'd like to lift up? Tell us about it!
I run an enamel pin and sticker shop called TealTeacup! While I was working as a UI/UX designer in the gaming industry, I started to make stickers with my silly doodles. One thing led to another and now I am a small business owner full-time! I make cute, chonky, and relatable designs through enamel pins and stickers. I create things from anime, cartoons, video games and really anything that I'm obsessed with!
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
I'm always struggling because I want to do more creative things! I think working with throwing clay for ceramics or working on 3d Modeling would be my "best life" creative goals! But, outside of artistic and crafting skills, I really enjoy language learning! I've studied Japanese and Spanish in the past years, but currently, I'm self-studying Korean. If I could, I would attempt to get an education and job in linguistics, because I really enjoy all aspects of language studies!
What made you start creating/cosplaying?
Cosplay to me is an amazing creative medium (like acrylic or digital painting) that has always felt like such an incredible accomplishment every time the ideas come to life. Years ago, I felt like I had no creative outlets that were "just for me" outside of my career and client work. I've always loved the representation of black and brown women in my favorite stories, so I started my first cosplay adventure with my classic love for Alice in Wonderland in my first cosplay project. This project was designed to capture me and my closest friends as the storybook characters they related to the most! Recently, I've been able to explore more with cosplay as Sophie from Howl's Moving Castle, and Nezuko from Demon Slayer.
What is your favorite tool you use daily?
Illustrator and Procreate are my tools of choice. Since I create enamel pins and accessories for a living, I'm always sketching in Procreate and then finalizing designs in Illustrator. I even designed my first cosplay in illustrator years ago!
What is your favorite Arda Wig? Why?
The Eden Classic wig blew me away! I had been searching for a cosplay wig for my Nezuko Cosplay, and when comparing the quality between the Eden Classic wig and others I had purchased, It reminded me exactly why I love Arda wigs so much! Sooo smooth, such high quality, and the color was fantastic! Its really easy to work with, as well, for re-curling between wears.
What advice do you have for creators just starting out?
Just create what makes you happy! Every new piece you put on paper is one step closer to coming to life, and everything you finish is a dream come true. Know that everything you can dream up is possible, so never hold back on your creativity!
What do you love most about cosplay/creating? What issues in the community do you wish you could change or bring awareness?
The storytelling element! We are the greatest part of everything we create because, our work embodies our own personal experiences, histories, unique imagination, translation of the idea, dreams, and expertise. Knowing that helps me stand out as a creator, and enjoy telling my own story through my work. As a community, I wish to encourage support and uplifting of the personal representations behind each cosplay and design. Know that we do this, create these, and put our hearts into our work for ourselves. Self-representation in any cosplay/creation is meant to celebrate what makes us who we are. So, let's celebrate the broad spectrum of cosplayers and creators by showing love and support for how they tell their unique stories through their work!
What does Juneteenth mean to you?
To me, Juneteenth is about reflecting on the history of the country: where we've been, where we are, and where we can grow for the better regarding the significant systemic changes necessary for a future of racial equality. It is a chance to highlight the stories and spread love and positivity for people, businesses, and creators of color, and celebrate the progress made over generations.
If you had to be shipwrecked on a deserted island, but all your human needs—such as food and water—were taken care of, what two items would you want to have with you?
A pen/pencil + unlimited paper for writing, drawing, note-taking etc (that counts as 1 thing, right?), and a camera with as much power/energy to last until I was rescued to visually capture everything I experienced there. It would help a lot with my mental health to have something to write with, and my life is "pix or it didn't happen" so I would want a camera for sure!
Do you run a business you'd like to promote or do you have one in mind you'd like to lift up? Tell us about it!
Darkarnival Butler is my personal business which is dedicated to cosplay content creation on Youtube and other social media, making of tutorials through the creation of cosplays and the making of original artworks and designs. I mostly promote myself on Instragram, Facebook and Youtube. I also own a Patreon where people can support my work and have access to exclusive and/or early content!
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
I sometimes think about being a costume designer or an illustrator. I would also be curious about being part of a team of costume makers for big productions like Broadway shows, Cirque du Soleil productions, movies or TV shows. If I wasn't a super shy and nervous person, I would probably would like to be a singer also, since it was one of my biggest dreams as a teenager.
What made you start creating/cosplaying?
I've always had a passion for costuming! It all started with my Halloween costumes, which I was always planning months or even years in advance. And I always dressed up as fictional characters from movies and more. Let's say that I was already cosplaying without knowing. My friends, who were manga and anime fans at the time, told me I should attend an anime convention one day and maybe try cosplaying in conventions. I was thrilled from my very first experience and I haven't stopped since. Because I wasn't really making my costumes from scratch at the time, I had to learn sewing bases from my mom and I've pretty much learned everything else by myself after that.
What is your favorite tool you use daily?
Other than my sewing machine of course, I've recently started to use my very own serger for the first time and now I don't know how I've been able to live without it for so long! The clean finishing I'm able to achieve today is the most satisfying feeling ever!
What is your favorite Arda Wig? Why?
My favorite Arda Wig is the Magnum Classic, because it is very versatile and perfect for several kind of looks and characters. Sometimes, I’m able to use the same Magnum wig that I own for up to 4 different characters/cosplays, which is very useful and allows me to save money and to reuse my wigs for future projects.
What advice do you have for creators just starting out?
First of all, don't forget that we ALL start somewhere. Even the best cosplayers out there already have been new to this and have been struggling at first. You have to give yourself time and never give up on your goals. With time and hard work, we all can progress and get better. Also, never forget to do what YOU want and what makes YOU happy. No matter who you are, where you're from, what you like and what you look like, you should never be ashamed of your passion and what gives you life, which is creating and expressing yourself. Even if you encounter obstacles or people who want to discourage you or take you down, never forget to focus on the positive, on positive people around you, people who encourage you and love for who you are. Never feel the need to do certain things, to change or to meet certain standards because other people want you to. The most important thing is to always do it for you first and not for others. And finally, never forget to be KIND and to have FUN!
What do you love most about cosplay? What issues in the community do you wish you could change or bring awareness?
My favorite thing about cosplay is to be able to make my childhood dreams come true, by becoming my own heroes and fictional role models. I love to be able to transform into anyone or anything I want, to have fun with it and to not be judged for it. I love that it allows me to be as creative as I can be and to develop skills I would probably have never learned without cosplay in my life. I love cosplay because it makes me feel beautiful, powerful and that it boosts me with confidence.
One thing I wish I could change about the community is the presence of toxic elitism among certain groups of cosplayers. The idea that some cosplayers uses their experience, skills or "status" to belittle other cosplayers and look down on other cosplayers is something I've always despised. And the fact that some cosplay groups or organizations will only acknowledge cosplayers meeting their own - sometimes biased - standards or cosplayers that are part of their social circle, without giving any chance to new creators, is also an issue I've witnessed numerous times and that I disagree with.
What does Juneteenth mean to you?
Juneteenth to me means both happy things and also sad things. It is a huge step in History for the rights of black people and their ancestors. It is the celebration of a strong community and a celebration of freedom. It is also a reminder that, even if that date was a big step foward in our History, we still have a lot of work to do towards real systemic equality between races and ethnicities. As much as this is supposed to be a great and happy celebration, it’s still sad to think that there are still a lot of issues and struggles regarding racism in America. However, I try to have hope and I believe that this reminder through a national celebration like Juneteenth can contribute to bring social awareness to that serious problem. Maybe one day we'll see a better future if we continue to work all together on that.
If you had to be shipwrecked on a deserted island, but all your human needs—such as food and water—were taken care of, what two items would you want to have with you?
Anyone would think that I would want to have supplies for cosplay making with me, but I obviously would need more than just two items for that XD I would say that a photo of my loved ones (family and friends) would be an absolute necessity for me, if I can't bring anyone with me of course. Second, this might be considered as more than one thing, but I would ask for something to be able to watch some movies or, at least, some music!
Do you run a business you'd like to promote or do you have one in mind you'd like to lift up? Tell us about it!
I plan on opening up a 3D print cosplay prop shop in the future with my partner, so stay tuned!
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
When I was younger I always wanted to be a zoologist/vet because I loved animals so much.
What made you start creating/cosplaying?
One day me and my best friend decided to cosplay for Otakon 2013. She wanted to go as Luffy from One Piece and I as Noloty from Book of Bantorra. We got our fabric and helped each other with creating our first cosplay together. We learned a lot on this project. And even though the results weren’t perfect I enjoyed the whole process. Now I have 20+wigs, large boxes filled with fabric and so much eva foam. And I’m happy for it.
What is your favorite tool you use daily?
Glue gun. It’s great for all cosplay repairs. Especially on the go at cons.
What is your favorite Arda Wig? Why?
Nina classic. I love the style and it’s one of my favorite wigs to wear on a daily basis. You can do so many cute styles with it.
What advice do you have for creators just starting out?
Cosplay whoever and whatever you want. It’s not about accuracy, near me it’s not about if you bought it or made it. Cosplay is about having fun. Don’t be afraid if your skin or body type doesn’t match. It’s about bringing your favorite character to life.
What do you love most about cosplay?
I love learning new things. Every time I start a new cosplay it’s always learning something different. And just being able to create something after nothing and put everything together is just wonderful!
What issues in the community do you wish you could change or bring awareness?
I wish everyone can cosplay without any hate or judgment from others. Cosplay is about having fun not about bringing others down.
What does Juneteenth mean to you?
It means freedom to me. It means I can dream and be whatever I want.
If you had to be shipwrecked on a deserted island, but all your human needs—such as food and water—were taken care of, what two items would you want to have with you?
WiFi and my phone.

What does Juneteenth mean to you?
Juneteenth is important because its a day that signifies liberation and freedom. It's also something that until fairly recently hasn't been recognized or talked about enough, even though it should have been all along. It was the first step towards equality, and while there is still a LOT more work to be done, it was a step in the right direction!
What made you start sewing/cosplay?
I've always loved costumes and superheroes. As a drag performer, generally you have to make or commission your costumes anyway. I began sewing as a means to an end to fulfill the needs I found myself with as I got more into drag and then further into cosplay.
What advice do you have for creators just starting out?
The only advice I ever give is: "JUST START". Whether it's cosplay or drag, be prepared to look back on your early years and cringe, but know that the more you do it the better you'll get.
What is your favorite sewing tool you use daily? Favorite fabric?
Well, it's technically not a sewing tool, but I love my heat gun. Once I got more into foam-crafting the heat gun legitimately changed my life. I'm honestly always trying to find excuses to use it whenever possible.
What is your favorite Arda Wig? Why?
Oh hands down the Tauriel in Pure White. It's my go-to for storm wigs. The density is great and the length is perfect. The widow's peak hairline is perfect. It's not too dramatic but it's still noticeable and recognizable
What do you love most about cosplay? What do you wish you could change?
I love a project and I love making a complete look from scratch. I like to try to be as accurate as possible, but naturally some things don't translate from a drawing to real life and that's fine. haha I wish I could stop myself from under-estimating the time a costume takes. I know full well I'm gonna always get carried away and get hyper focused on some parts, but every time I'm like "Oh I can do that in four days, it's fine."
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
My goal has always been to write and draw comics. It'll happen one day for sure. It's something I've worked on and thought about for my entire life.
If you had to be shipwrecked on a deserted island, but all your human needs—such as food and water—were taken care of, what two items would you want to have with you?
Well...I'd say "my cats" but they would be no help on a deserted island...So I don't know, I guess my phone and a solar charger so I could call for help? If not that then a sketch book and pencils so I could maybe get some work done with all that free time.

Do you run a business you'd like to promote or do you have one in mind you'd like to lift up?
I am a cosplay commissioner and I sell prints and cosplay iron-on decals in my Ko-fi shop. I'm also hosting BIPOC Vampire Day, an online event, September 17th - 19th to showcase diverse vampires in media, cosplay and more.
What made you start sewing/cosplay?
I started sewing as a kid because I loved costumes and wanted to learn to make my own. I got into cosplay after college because I missed designing and constructing costumes for the theatre.
What advice do you have for creators just starting out?
Start small and realize that everyone starts somewhere. It's okay to learn, grow and make mistakes.
What is your favorite sewing tool you use daily? Favorite fabric?
Probably my chaco liner - it's such a great marking tool and I can even use it for things outside of sewing like armor work!
Cotton stretch blends - it's the best of both worlds.
What is your favorite Arda Wig? Why?
I really like the Marty Classic wig. It's such a versatile lacefront and I've actually used it more than once for my cosplays.
What do you love most about cosplay? What do you wish you could change?
I absolutely love how cosplay has the power to let people embody characters they love as well as make them unique to them. There are so many creative takes and versions and I love that. I wish that the community did better to uplift all sorts of cosplayers instead of one very particular type.
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
I would love to get into voice acting. It's always been a dream of mine and I'm trying to make that a reality this year.
If you had to be shipwrecked on a deserted island, but all your human needs—such as food and water—were taken care of, what two items would you want to have with you?
Oof...only two.??? Probably a really thick notebook and pen so I could at least draw and write to keep sane.

Do you run a business you'd like to promote or do you have one in mind you'd like to lift up?
Tell us about it! I am a freelance artist and I work on commissions. You can check out my Art Instagram for more information. I would also like to uplift this awesome black owned business called Superbaddiekawaii! They have the best and cutest lashes ever! I highly recommend them!
What does Juneteenth mean to you?
Juneteenth means to me a celebration of being black and proud. We continue to honor and remember our ancestors and activists who fought so we could be where we are now. And we will continue to fight for a world that treats us like human beings. To be honest, sometimes it’s hard to believe that a better world can ever be achievable, but this day reminds me that if we stand together we can overcome anything.
What made you start sewing/cosplay?
I started cosplaying after graduating college. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with my life (still don’t) and My friends were heading to a convention so I thought, well, I have my own adult money and time... why not put all of that into cosplaying? It helped with my anxiety, kept me busy and I really enjoyed it.
What advice do you have for creators just starting out?
My advice for creators just starting out is to just go for it. It doesn't matter who you are or what people say, just go for it. Don't compare yourself to others because this is your journey and your time. You are special and different and no one can take that away from you, but yourself.
What is your favorite sewing tool you use daily? Favorite fabric?
I’m extremely new to sewing and my lines were soo wobbly until I found a magnetic seam guide! I use that thing EVERY TIME and it’s my absolute favorite sewing tool! (also heatnbond adhesive! NO SHAME HERE!) Favorite fabric? OMG so I fell in love with this color shifting red purple stretch pleather… if I could use that in every cosplay I would!
What is your favorite Arda Wig? Why?
MY favorite Arda wig so far is the Le Tigre. It’s super soft, very LOOONG and affordable! It’s super easy to manage and makes great wefts for a base wig that you would like to spruce up.
What do you love most about cosplay? What do you wish you could change?
What I love most about cosplaying is bringing characters to life, especially the characters that look like me. I get all excited, I truly feel like that character. I become more confident and in a way this confidence transfer over when I’m not cosplaying. I would like to change the toxicity within the community. It’s been a great community, but at times there is gatekeeping, racism and body shaming. I just wish we could all respect each other and be more caring.
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
I would still like to stay in the art field. Cosplay has opened my eyes and made me think, “I wish I went into that profession”. Some of those professions I would like to attempt are set designing, special effects makeup, and prop making.
If you had to be shipwrecked on a deserted island, but all your human needs—such as food and water—were taken care of, what two items would you want to have with you?
A pencil and paper.

Do you run a business you'd like to promote or do you have one in mind you'd like to lift up? Tell us about it!
I do my own commissions as my primary job at the moment, you can check out my work on my Instagram. But! I would really love to promote the ah-mazing plush made by one of my fave people, Beenerdish! Her shop is currently on a break, but you can check out her work on Instagram!
What does Juneteenth mean to you?
To me, Juneteenth is a day of remembrance and a celebration of Black joy. But it is also a day of hope. Even though freedom for Black Americans was confirmed on this day, it was not a complete freedom. We struggle against so many forms of systemic oppression to this day. But on this day of joy I look to the future, and I believe in my heart that by working together and with our allies that we can dismantle these systems and bring true equity to America. Maybe even in my lifetime. Some people might think that it's foolhardy to believe in that sort of future, but I hold it firm in my heart. Juneteenth is a day that reminds me that progress can, will and must be made.
What made you start sewing/cosplay?
I first started cosplaying after I went to my very first anime convention when I was 17 (I believe it was A-kon 12). After I had seen everyone in their amazing costumes, I knew I had to start making my own as well.
What advice do you have for creators just starting out?
Start small and work your way up. Don't be discouraged if you have setbacks as these can provide opportunities for you to find different solutions to the issues you're having. And don't try to compare yourself to any other cosplayer. Just focus on improving your own skills and work your way into more challenging projects bit by bit and you'll do just fine!
What is your favorite sewing tool you use daily? Favorite fabric?
My favorite sewing tool is the seam ripper, but since it usually means I'm fixing a mistake, it's also my least favorite lol. I think my favorite fabric to work with at the moment would be peachskin because of the weight, and flow of the fabric.
What is your favorite Arda Wig? Why?
It's a tie! The Jareth and the Inigo are my top go to wigs because they can be utilized in so many different ways. I've made a lot of very different wigs that don't look anything like the base wigs and I never have to worry about moving the skin top or if there won't be enough coverage.
What do you love most about cosplay? What do you wish you could change?
I love the friendships that came from cosplay. The togetherness that I feel with others geeking out about our favorite characters is something I hold very dear. Having said that, I would absolutely change the cloud of toxicity that hangs over the community. It's all so unnecessary. There are a lot of things that need to be worked through.
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
I think something I've always wanted to delve into more is marketing/advertising. I love coming up with unique ideas to promote things and I think it's something I'd do well at.
If you had to be shipwrecked on a deserted island, but all your human needs—such as food and water—were taken care of, what two items would you want to have with you?:
That's a hard one, but if I could only do two, it'd probably be my NeoGeo Pocket and my favorite book. Gotta keep entertained!

Do you run a business you'd like to promote or do you have one in mind you'd like to lift up?
We run several cosplay and diversity equity and inclusion programs including POC Creati-Con, a conference for POC creatives to network, and connect on topics surrounding our identities and content creation and Stop. Drop. Cosplay, which is a closet-cosplay event where contestants put together costumes in a short amount of time for prizes. We'd also like to boost the POC Cosplayers Facebook Group, Black Cosplay Boosters facebook page, the Cosplay Contest Support Group, Cosplay Contest Runners Assemble, and Sheprop! All are great places for marginalized cosplayers to get together and learn more about various aspects of the cosplay community.
What does Juneteenth mean to you?
Juneteenth is a celebration that many of us weren't even aware of until adulthood. It wasn't something taught in schools--an ironic reminder that Juneteenth celebrates the day that news of slavery ending was delivered to Galveston, Texas, in 1865, a whopping two and a half years after the official emancipation proclaimation was made. It is an incredibly important day in history for Black people, and we use the day not just to draw attention to the moments when we are in pain, or when the ugliness of racial oppressive systems are in headlines in the news, but also the joyful elements of Black culture: our achievements, our contributions, our creativity, our triumph, and heck, even our mediocrity. We are people that have a variety of interests, pursuits, hobbies and stories. We personally take the day to celebrate all that Black people have to offer. We think non-Black folks should use the day to reflect on how they can bring down oppressive systems so we can vibrantly live without that constant reminder of racism and oppression.
What made you start sewing/cosplay?
We played dress up quite a bit as kids, and have always been pretty crafty. We officially started cosplaying to attend a convention back in 2005 or 2006, thinking you had to cosplay if you didn't want to look weird. That obviously isn't the case, but even though those old cosplays were pretty busted (We were both Kaoru Kamiya from Rurouni Kenshin--part of that costume was made with a pillowcase and an absurd amount of safety pins) they went over well, and we dove deep into the hobby!
What advice do you have for creators just starting out?
This is advice we'd like to give Black cosplayers in particular who are circling the drain about starting. It is an incredibly fun and fulfilling hobby! Don't worry about not getting your costume right on the first try, and definitely don't worry about whether or not you have the canon body of the character you are trying to recreate. Cosplay characters that you like, costumes that you like, and don't be afraid to put your own spin on it! Cosplay is about creatively expressing your love for characters and costumes. The amount of fun and joy you can get out of cosplay overshadows the negativity you might get.
What is your favorite sewing tool you use daily? Favorite fabric?
Pro: Wonder Clips because they are great for thick fabrics and it is far less painful trying to relocate wonderclips than it is looking for the pins I've inevitably dropped! My favorite fabric is suiting. It's versatile, comfortable and is pretty easy to work with.
Con: The seam ripper. It is a weird choice for a favorite tool because it means I probably borked something up, but it's so useful! Also when they're too dull to rip seams anymore...I use them to open mail haha. My favorite fabric is velvet. It feels so nice to the touch! It's a pain in the butt to work with sometimes, but the end result is worth it.
What is your favorite Arda Wig? Why?
Pro: The Kelly! I love the cut, and the color options are so cute. If I could get away with it at my day job, I would wear it every day!
Con: Jareth! I do most of the wig styling for our duo, and the Jareth makes spiking really easy. It's a great wig for doing weird styles.
What do you love most about cosplay? What do you wish you could change?
We love bringing characters to life. We tend to pick costumes that are either really fiddly and have a lot of details like Sakizo designs or Final Fantasy, or costumes that are nostalgic and fun like the Rugrats and Thundercats. We love the crafting element of cosplay, especially when we get to try new materials or new techniques we've picked up. The elements of the cosplay scene we'd like to change would, hands down be the discrimination. Cosplay, just like any other community also has its issues with discrimination against marginalized groups. Since we're talking about Junteenth, racism is definitely still a problem, including flat out having people devalue your creations just because you don't look like the source material. Raceface is also still an issue. Sadly cosplay is not immune to the problems we deal with in regular ol' society.
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Pro: I would own an art supply store. I love crafting supplies, and owning a business would allow me to hoard them without keeping them in my house.
Con: I'm so passionate about making cosplay contests inclusive and fair that if such a job existed that paid me enough to leave my day job, I'd love to do it full time! That, and I'd have pursued Japanese interpreting. I got a great opportunity to do so right out of grad-school, and while it was extremely difficult, it was such a rewarding experience. I've lost a lot of my speaking ability, but if I could do it over, I'd do both!
If you had to be shipwrecked on a deserted island, but all your human needs—such as food and water—were taken care of, what two items would you want to have with you?
Pro: I would bring my phone. None of my vacations are complete without aimlessly scrolling through pinterest.
Con: First of all, I am very indoorsy so I would bring a private jet to go home immediately haha. If I can't have that, I'd pick my laptop with an internet hotspot.
