Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I started cosplaying in 2004 when my friends found out about a first time anime convention in my city. They peer pressured me into dressing up. Later on one of those friends lit a cosplay fire under my feet by saying I was not trying hard enough. Afterwards, I kept taking on bigger challenges and started honing my skills. I haven’t looked back since.
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: I personally like prop work because I like sculpting, craving, and painting. I find props more forgiving than fabric. Props also make posing for photos a little easier.
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: Tia Dalma / Calypso from Pirates of the Caribbean: It was my first live action costume and I am very proud of it. It was a challenge to get it right especially since I was recreating something a professional costume designer and crew put together. I spent a lot of time dyeing and weathering the costume trying to get it to match the film. It was time consuming but worth it.
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: I really love the lace fronts wigs. Matildas are great. My favourite Arda wig colour is Silver.
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: When you hit a snag while crafting, check out what other cosplayers have done with the same or similar costumes. Research what they have written up about the construction and then ask them how they overcame their challenges. If that fails, then go check out a few forums like the RPF, Reddit, or cosplay sites, where there is always someone willing to help.
