Iron Wig 2017 Final Round Rules
Hello contestants and spectators, and welcome to the final round of Iron Wig 2017!
Our contestants received the following:
- Lindsay in Powder Blue
- Lindsay in Mahogany
- Malinda in Light Peach
- Josephine in Silver
- Ororo in Pale Blonde
- Candy Striper (leftover Otakon LE)
- Mugatu in a random color
- Proline Rit Dyes in Scarlet, Royal Blue, and Kelly Green
Contestants: You will be creating three wigs over the course of six weeks! You are not required to use all the materials in your box, but these are the only wig fibers you can use between your three wigs. You can use accessories, dyes, and support materials such as foam/etc.
- CHARACTER
Pick out a character from any pop culture media, and style a wig as accurately as possible.
-TUTORIAL CHALLENGE
Create a wig/hair tutorial of any kind using provided materials, and incorporate that technique into a wig style.
-RIT DYE CHALLENGE
Rit has sponsored us with some proline dyes, which can be used on our wigs via the stovetop method. Incorporate at least one of the dyes into a freestyle wig design.
Progress photos are not required, though they do help! Take photos of several angles of the finished wig. You may have assistance with the photography, makeup, modeling, etc (just not the styling).
These are the categories we’ll be judging you on for a total of 50 points possible:
-Overall Presentation (10 points)
-Overall Cleanliness (10 points)
-Character (10 points)
-Tutorial (10 points)
-Rit Dye (10 points)
Here’s a rundown on how each category works:
OVERALL PRESENTATION (20% of your final score)
The Presentation is how the wigs are showcased. Photos of each wig from different angles is required, and showcasing on a person rather than a mannequin is preferred. Creating a look with makeup and/or fashion could also improve your score. You don’t need a professional photographer or supermodel; if you make an effort to show your wig off on a real person, get photos under good lighting and in front of a non-distracting background, you will do well in this category
OVERALL CLEANLINESS (20% of your final score)
Cleanliness is literally how clean your wigs look. Some examples we look at when scoring this category: Do spikes have tips that are cut bluntly, or do they come to a nice point? Are there gaps showing? Is the hair smooth or bumpy over different areas? How’s the overall shape of a spike or hair form? Is the cut choppy or uneven? Can we see glue, flyways, or frizz? Etc.
Points will be deducted based on how many things we nitpicked and the extensiveness of those.
CHARACTER (20% of your final score)
We’ll be looking at the accuracy to the character you chose, and the complexity of the style.
TUTORIAL (20% of your final score)
We’ll be looking at the clarity and usefulness of the tutorial for the main portion of this score. Creativity and complexity of the style might also be taken into consideration.
RIT DYE (20% of your final score)
We’ll be scoring this wig based on creativity and complexity of the style, and how efficiently the provided dyes were used.
Scores will be done by 3 Arda judges; scores will be added up and divided by 3 to give each contestant an average score for each category. Contestants are welcome to reach out to the Arda team for a private critique after scores have been published.
The prizes are as follows:
1st place: $100 gift certificate to Arda Wigs, and $500 worth wig styling tools and supplies
2nd place: $75 gift certificate to Arda Wigs, and $100 worth wig styling tools and supplies
3rd place: $75 gift certificate to Arda Wigs
Rit Dye Award: a $50 gift certificate to ritstudio.com will be provided to the contestant with the highest score in the Rit Dye category.
There will be an audience favorite poll once the results are in; the top favorite will receive a $25 gift certificate to our website!
Late entry policy: Entries submitted within 12 hours after the deadline can be accepted as a late entry. Late entries might not be qualified to enter the audience poll, and will receive a 25% point deduction from their score. This will likely result in being eliminated from the competition, but the contestant can still receive their participation certificate. Entries submitted past the 12-hour late entry period will be disqualified, and will not qualify for their certificate.
Your deadline will be: June 22nd at 12:00 PM CST / UTC -6:00
If you are unsure of what time zone this correlates to in your area, please feel free to ask us via email!
Have fun, and best of luck! We can’t wait to see what you come up with. 😊
In addition to use by Arda Wigs, photos submitted for the Rit Dye category may be used by the Rit Dye company for marketing and promotions.
