This week we interviewed our customer, Ginny DiGuiseppi! See more of her work via her Website or Facebook!
Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I’ve been sewing since I was little and costuming since high school, but I didn’t start cosplaying until 2011. Until that point, I loved wearing costumes but believed they were restricted to Halloween and the occasional Renaissance Festival visit. The minute I found out that cosplay meant I could make and wear costumes whenever I wanted, I was on board.
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: I think my favorite part is that mid-costume tipping point when all the random pieces you’ve been working on finally start to come together into something recognizable. I love the first time that you put all the parts together and you really see the character taking shape.
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: I recently made a Josephine Montilyet costume in about two weeks that I’m very proud of. It’s the first costume I’ve made where I really started to feel like I knew what I was doing.
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: I’m such a sucker for long, curly wigs — like Ferrari, and Luthien. I’m also in love with “Mint” but don’t yet own a wig in that color… still waiting for a good excuse for it!
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: Don’t get caught in the trap of trying to make what other people want instead of what you want. If you don’t cosplay something you’re passionate about, it won’t be worth the money and the sleepless nights and the pinpricks and the frustration.
