Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I first heard of cosplay in 2005 – but back then I thought it to be a bit weird and strange. (the photos I saw of it was a guy with beard cosplaying sailor moon) which kept me on a distance from it for some time. in 2007 I got a friend who cosplayed. I got a crush on her back then, and so as she asked if I wanted to join her in a cosplay group for a convention, I said yes, mainly just to get some more in common with her – and to give it a try. Since people around my own age did it too, how bad could it be?
I was hooked on it right away. I always loved performing at school, but always did I get those really terrible roles (tree number two, rock number 3 and that type of things) but in cosplay I got the chance to not only decide who to be, but also what the performance should be. However what really made me stick around for so many years were all the amazing people I met, and the close friends I got. It was really life changing
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: That really depends on the costume. If there is something different from the rest on the costume, that is what I look forwards to make the most (ex if the wig got an interesting styling, or if there is a special piece of jewerly or armor). In general when it comes to costume making I do a lot of handsewing and I love paying attention to small details.
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: That must be either my Apollo or one of my Benten cosplays. For Apollo because it was my first time working with worbla, so it was a huge challenge at first. after the first hours time however I got into the routine of using it for jewerly. for Benten it is the patience I had that makes me feel proud. I spend everyday for half a year doing nothing but sewing on sequins (except when I was at work or school) . I did literally nothing but that. Never gonna do that again, but neither do I regret it.
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: Hard question! I really love the lacefront wigs in general, but my top favourite style must be the Matilda one. It got a lot of hair in it, and fits really nicely on my head. favourite color – I don’t have only one. But to mention a few there is the ash black – I used it for a Wolf costume, and the mixture of colors in the fibers gave it the perfect look. Ash blonde is also one of my favourites – it is a pale blonde but still it looks very natural. But I could go on with even more colors. The brown range of colors are amazing as well.
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: Cosplay is not just one hobby. There are many ways of enjoying the concept of cosplay; everything from just finding some clothes in your closet to hang out with your friends at a con in a costume, to crafting it yourself, going on photoshoots, or maybe performing and making videos. You’ll make the best of friends if you find those who enjoy it in the same way as you do. If you want to go all out and spend many thousands each year on costumes, it is much more fun to find other people who do the same – so you can relate and understand each other. Or if you just wanna goof around – go out and find the most goofy people you can at the convention, and enjoy fitting in with amazing people.
