Jess WWWIP Week 6

Hi crafters!
This week I worked on creating overlays for my bodysuit. I planned on making them similar in shape to armor pieces and to use feather trim to create dynamic depth.
I had a few yards of pre-made trim, but it turned out to be not nearly enough. 😬 Fortunately, I had a bunch of loose feathers on hand as a backup so I decided to make my own. Here’s a quick tutorial on how to make feather trim!
Start with some stiff ribbon. Cut it to the desired length needed and then paint an even amount of fabric glue along the middle. Then cut the quill off the end of your feathers and lay them in a density you are happy with. Fold the ribbon over and secure with a clip.
Continue folding and clipping until the entire length is secure.
Repeat until you have the pieces you need and give them an hour or two to dry. Once they are dry, remove the clips then straight stitch along the top and bottom of the ribbon to secure the feathers in place. Then pin and sew them to your final piece!
You can use this method with any type of feathers!
'Til next week!
