Name and Social Info?
I’m ChibiTifa! You can view my work or follow me on Twitter and Instagram!
I actually don’t have one myself but I would like to plug CosplayWithMaridah on Etsy. If you’re looking for basic patterns that you can alter to suit your needs, she’s the one to go to. She also has patterns for specific characters that are super easy to use. My award winning Anthy costume wouldn’t have been possible without her easy to use pattern.
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
If I could make a sustainable income from it, I really want to be a full-time writer. I love to write fiction and I’m actually working on a few novels myself.
What made you start creating/cosplaying?
My first con was Otakon over 15 years ago, and I saw a bunch of people just running around dressed as their favorite characters. Seeing that inspired me to try my hand at it.
My favorite sewing tool has got to be wonder clips. It really helps when you’re trying to sew thicker fabrics together like pleather without leaving pin holes in them
What is your favorite Arda Wig? Why?
The Ferrari. It’s so versatile and you can use it as a base for so many styles!
What advice do you have for creators just starting out? First and foremost start off slow. Don’t rush to be the next “big viral sensation”. Take your time at your craft and hone your skills. You’ll eventually be where you want to be with patience, and you’ll need a LOT of it
What do you love most about cosplay? What issues in the community do you wish you could change or bring awareness?
I love how easy it is to make new and long lasting friends. Some of my best friends that I’ve know for years I met through cosplay. The community can really bring people together. It isn’t without its issues though. Racism is still incredibly prevalent. I try to bring awareness about this through the panels I have at conventions and they have been widely received.
What does Juneteenth mean to you?
It’s a time where African Americans can celebrate their liberation, pride, and culture and remember the people who fought so hard for civil rights. We are far from complete equality, but we continue to fight and press on so that one day it can very well happen.
If you had to be shipwrecked on a deserted island, but all your human needs—such as food and water—were taken care of, what two items would you want to have with you? Give me my laptop (with a charging station) and my nephew Hershey (he's a dog!). I can spend my time while being rescued just writing my novels and having some of the best company with me.
